April 28, 1957. A race track hidden in a verdant valley of Northwest Connecticut opened its gates to the public for the very first time. A man named Vaill had turned a used-up gravel quarry and a potato field into one and a half miles of tarmac, seven uniquely connected corners that promised high speeds and rhythmic flow to drivers capable of meeting the challenge. Lime Rock Park had been born – and changed, literally and figuratively, the landscape of American road racing.
Commemorating the Lime Rock 60-year milestone prompted us to think of ways our loyal, knowledgeable fans and friends could be intimately part of our future. The next 60 years, if you will.
And so, with this email, we invite you to join us in “Celebrating 60 Years.”
How can you do that?
Proposed A Paddock Legends of Lime Rock Commemorative Area
► First, we have set the wheels in motion to design and build a beautiful plaza in A Paddock that, among many things, will honor the people so vital to the history of Lime Rock. The “Legends of Lime Rock” structure will be featured in this Sam Posey-designed Commemorative Area, forever honoring Jim Vaill and John Fitch... Mark Donohue and Paul Newman... and in the hopefully very distant future, Sam Posey, David Hobbs, Roger Penske, Jim Haynes, Parnelli Jones and of course, Skip Barber.
How can you permanently be part of the Commemorative Area?
By purchasing a “brick paver,” affordable ($175) and available now.
All fan-purchased bricks will be integral to the design of the walks and pathways in the Legends of Lime Rock Commemorative Area. After we engrave the name or names you want memorialized, they will become a permanent part of Lime Rock’s next 60 years. What a terrific opportunity to honor and remember your loved ones...
For individuals and companies interested in a more substantial level of involvement, Skip Barber is also offering the opportunity to sponsor the individual cameo plaques of each Legend of Lime Rock. (Contact Roxanne Belter at 860.435.5000, ext. 113, or email@example.com, if you wish to open a dialogue.)
► Second, Lime Rock Park is throwing a party. A big, exciting one, on the evening of Saturday, September 2. Cocktails, a sit-down, family style dinner, music, entertainment, live and silent auctions... and very special guests, MCs and speakers throughout the evening that will include David Hobbs, Brian Redman, Sam Posey and actor/comedian/filmmaker/author/collector/race car driver Adam Carolla. The keynote speaker will be Jim Haynes, whose essential and creative ownership of Lime Rock in the 60s and 70s ensured the success we all enjoy today.
Tickets to the “60-Year Celebration Jubilation Affair” are available online now; attendance is limited to 275 guests. Individual specific-location seats may be purchased for $200, with entire 8-seat tables sold at $1,600.
Also, be sure to take a look at our first batch of new, limited edition line of Lime Rock Park “60 Years” merchandise, available online now. More "60th" gear is on the way.
Celebrating 60 Years
Thank you for joining Lime Rock Park as we recognize our first six decades... and look ahead to our next 60 years.
