Lime Rock and Royals’ Garage Team Up for Veterans
First Annual Veteran’s Memorial Car Show is Sunday, May 30

A big, on-track car show is the result of a first-time joint venture between Royals’ Garage and Lime Rock Park. The show date, May 30, is the Sunday during Lime Rock’s traditional Memorial Day Grand-Am race weekend, which features the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race on Saturday and, for the first time ever, the Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype & GT race on Monday.

Proceeds from the “First Annual Royals’ Garage Presents the Veteran’s Memorial Car Show at Lime Rock Park” will benefit the Veteran’s Memorial Wall at the refurbished Torrington City Hall.

The Sunday show is 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., rain or shine. All Show Cars will all be displayed on track, and is open to: Muscle Cars; Tuners & Imports; Street Rods; Classic Cars; Antiques; Antique Trucks; Race Cars; and Exceptional Contemporary. There is no pre-registration – show up, but you’ll have to pass muster with the Royals – and both spectators and entrants pay cash at the gate.

There will be four trophy award winners: The People’s Pick, Royals’ Crown, Skip’s Selection, and Veteran’s Vote.

Glenn Royals and family are the longtime producers of the highly respected Litchfield Hills Historic Automobile Auto Show & Swap Meet at the Goshen Fairgrounds (2009 was its 53rd anniversary).

Late last year, Lime Rock thought it would be wise to utilize the non-racing Sunday of the Memorial Day Grand-Am weekend and decided a local event to benefit veterans would not only be a good draw, but would fit in with a new track policy: Lime Rock fans with a military ID get free admission – as do their immediate families – to the Memorial Day weekend races.

The track then approached the Royals about staging a car show, who were enthusiastic and immediately  jumped on board. It was Glenn Royals who suggested the show’s proceeds go to the Veteran’s Memorial Wall fund.

Royals said, “When Skip came to us, well, we loved the whole idea. I know most of our ‘regular’ Goshen entrants love going to Lime Rock, and for a lot of them, this will be the first time their cars will be on the track. If we get a good turn-out, it will be great for the Wall fund.”

Admission is $5 (kids 12 and under free); it’s free admission for ex- and current military; the Car Show Entry Fee is $10 ($5 for military); and the first 300 entrants receive a special metal commemorative dash plaque. A limited-edition commemorative poster will be available for $5, too. Parking is free.

The Grand-Am paddock and the Lime Rock Midway will also be open to show-goers.
