Lime Rock Park, Metro-North Railroad, Grand-Am, and four front-running race teams were at Grand Central Terminal all day Wednesday, April 29. We had a big public display in the Vanderbilt Taxi Stand to promote the first-ever Metro-North “Getaway Package” and to familiarize autoless New Yorkers to the wonders of Lime Rock Park.

Here was our pitch... have you ever imagined what it would be like if you saw race cars driving full chat in Central Park? Okay, that’s what Lime Rock is like...

The event was cool... Thousands of people streaming in and out of Grand Central, many doing double-takes as they spotted about 2,000 horsepower worth of Grand-Am race cars in the Vandy Taxi Stand. More than 1,500 LRP ticket brochures and an equal number of Metro-North “Getaway” brochures were picked up. Oh, we wanted to make people’s ears bleed by firing up the Mazda, but that plan got ix-nayed...

LAKEVILLE, CONN. (April 27, 2010) - The Grand-Am Road Racing Series is testing at the track today. The Rolex Sports Car Series featuring the Daytona Prototypes and the GT cars have taken to the track officially for the first time ever. Many of these drivers have never raced Lime Rock and on a day like today, rain, no rain, rain - they're going to get some good testing in.

There are 11 DP teams and 8 GT teams at the track. The DP teams are averaging 1:03 - 1:04 lap times and the GT cars are averaging 1:07 - 1:08 lap times.

Quote from owner Michael Shank of Michael Shank Racing - "I can already tell the Lime Rock race is going to be a scrappy one. The track is short and tight. We can guarantee door-to-door racing!"

In what is a first for both Metro-North Railroad and Lime Rock Park, the details of an all-inclusive Metro-North Getaway Package to the GRAND-AM sports car races at Lime Rock will be announced at a morning press function Wednesday, April 28, at Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Taxi Stand (East 43rd Avenue at Vanderbilt Avenue, on the west side of Grand Central Terminal in New York City.), beginning at 8:00 a.m.  and running until about 3:00 p.m.
