Chairman Murray Smith today announced that Wayne Carini will be the Honored Collector for Historic Festival 34 Presented by the Prestige Family of Fine Cars, Labor Day weekend September 2 - 5. Carini, from Portland, Conn., is the charismatic host of one of the most popular cable TV shows in America, the HD-only “Chasing Classic Cars” on Discovery Channel-owned Velocity.
Wayne Carini is not only a widely recognized TV personality, but a highly regarded restorer; a pre-eminent Ferrari expert; a much sought-after concours judge; and owner of F40 Motorsports (buys and sells vintage and classic automobiles), Continental Auto, Ltd. (high-end and exotic automobile repair and bodywork), and Carini Carozzeria (restoration shop where Wayne spends much of his time). Carini Consulting advises and manages collections for clients around the world.
Wayne’s personal car collection has never been seen publicly, but he enthusiastically welcomed the opportunity to bring a half-dozen of his favorite cars, a half-dozen motorcycles, and a very special “hauler-and-racecar” combo to Lime Rock Park for the Festival when he accepted Sunday in the Park Concours organizer Kent Bain’s offer to be the Honored Collector.
“I am deeply honored to have been named the festival and concours honored collector,” Wayne told us. “Yes, I am pretty private when it comes to my collection – one of my favorite things to do is invite a few close friends over, head down to the cars, and simply wander around and enjoy – but it just feels right to bring some of my favorites to Lime Rock.
“And that’s because Lime Rock means so much to me... It was the early 1960s, I had just turned 10, and my birthday present was a trip to see the races at Lime Rock. We went up in my Dad’s 1928 Lincoln Touring car, and I was so incredibly thrilled to be going to a race track! It was unbelievable. No doubt, going to Lime Rock for the races set a hook that, in retrospect, certainly helped point me down the road to where I am today. I’ve raced there, judged there, filmed shows there... To be named honored collector is incredibly special to me. Thank you, Kent, Murray and Skip [Barber].”
Wayne loves special, one of a kind vehicles. What he’s bringing to the Historic Festival will be wildly diverse – two-, three- and four-wheeled – and it’s safe to say you won’t ever have another opportunity to see them live and up close other than here at Lime Rock.
One car he’s bringing we are allowed to reveal now is an amazing 1,000 h.p. ’32 Ford that has made dozens of record-breaking runs at Bonneville.
Wayne says, “We will start it up. And you will be flattened, I promise. Its sound is incredible...”
At Historic Festival 34, Wayne Carini will make special visits to Mohegan Sun VIP Fan Hospitality on Saturday and Monday (get your Fan Hospitality pass now, they’re sure to sell-out); autograph sessions with Wayne will also be scheduled throughout the weekend.
When he is not traveling the world chasing cars, Wayne enjoys spending time with his family in the log home that he built more than 40 years ago in rural Connecticut, and working on his new dream, Carini Vineyards, on the farm the family just purchased. The family loves to take summer afternoon rides in their 1927 Bentley Touring Car whenever they can. Wayne’s youngest daughter especially enjoys “going fast.” She was diagnosed with autism at an early age. Wayne has been an avid supporter of autism awareness and research organizations ever since. He helps to organize and sponsor car events for the benefit of children and adults with autism, especially in Connecticut.
