2020‌ ‌NORTHEAST‌ ‌GRAND‌ ‌PRIX‌ ‌AT‌ ‌LIME‌ ‌ROCK‌ ‌PARK‌ ‌CANCELED,‌ ‌
SLATED‌ ‌TO‌ ‌RETURN‌ ‌IN‌ ‌2021‌ ‌
 ‌
LAKEVILLE,‌ ‌Conn.‌ ‌(July‌ ‌31,‌ ‌2020)—The‌ ‌International‌ ‌Motor‌ ‌Sports‌ ‌Association‌ ‌(IMSA)‌ ‌today‌ ‌announced‌ ‌
a‌ ‌realignment‌ ‌to‌ ‌upcoming‌ ‌dates‌ ‌and‌ ‌venues‌ ‌on‌ ‌its‌ ‌2020‌ ‌schedule,‌ ‌which‌ ‌includes‌ ‌shifting‌ ‌the‌ ‌Northeast‌ ‌
Grand‌ ‌Prix‌ ‌at‌ ‌Lime‌ ‌Rock‌ ‌Park‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌Charlotte‌ ‌Motor‌ ‌Speedway‌ ‌ROVAL‌ ‌as‌ ‌part‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌NASCAR‌ ‌event‌ ‌
weekend,‌ ‌Oct.‌ ‌9-10.‌ ‌The‌ ‌event‌ ‌had‌ ‌previously‌ ‌been‌ ‌moved‌ ‌from‌ ‌its‌ ‌traditional‌ ‌July‌ ‌date‌ ‌and‌ ‌today’s‌ ‌
realignments‌ ‌by‌ ‌IMSA‌ ‌were‌ ‌also‌ ‌necessary‌ ‌in‌ ‌response‌ ‌to‌ ‌ongoing‌ ‌logistical‌ ‌challenges‌ ‌associated‌ ‌with‌ ‌
COVID-19.‌ ‌
In‌ ‌addition,‌ ‌IMSA‌ ‌announced‌ ‌the‌ ‌shifting‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌Labor‌ ‌Day‌ ‌Weekend‌ ‌six-hour‌ ‌race‌ ‌from‌ ‌Watkins‌ ‌Glen‌ ‌
International‌ ‌to‌ ‌Michelin‌ ‌Raceway‌ ‌Road‌ ‌Atlanta‌ ‌on‌ ‌Sept.‌ ‌4-6.‌ ‌
“We‌ ‌deeply‌ ‌regret‌ ‌not‌ ‌hosting‌ ‌the‌ ‌IMSA‌ ‌Northeast‌ ‌Grand‌ ‌Prix‌ ‌this‌ ‌year,‌ ‌but‌ ‌clearly‌ ‌understand‌ ‌the‌ ‌
obstacles‌ ‌IMSA‌ ‌was‌ ‌presented‌ ‌with,”‌ ‌said‌ ‌Lime‌ ‌Rock‌ ‌Park‌ ‌President‌ ‌Skip‌ ‌Barber.‌ ‌“IMSA‌ ‌racing‌ ‌has‌ ‌long‌ ‌
been‌ ‌a‌ ‌tradition‌ ‌at‌ ‌Lime‌ ‌Rock‌ ‌Park,‌ ‌and‌ ‌we‌ ‌know‌ ‌IMSA‌ ‌has‌ ‌exhausted‌ ‌every‌ ‌opportunity‌ ‌to‌ ‌conduct‌ ‌the‌ ‌
event‌ ‌this‌ ‌year.‌ ‌The‌ ‌good‌ ‌news‌ ‌is‌ ‌that‌ ‌IMSA‌ ‌remains‌ ‌unwavering‌ ‌in‌ ‌their‌ ‌commitment‌ ‌to‌ ‌return‌ ‌in‌ ‌2021‌ ‌
and‌ ‌beyond.”‌ ‌
Fans‌ ‌who‌ ‌have‌ ‌previously‌ ‌purchased‌ ‌tickets‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌Northeast‌ ‌Grand‌ ‌Prix‌ ‌event‌ ‌will‌ ‌receive‌ ‌a‌ ‌
communication‌ ‌regarding‌ ‌their‌ ‌options‌ ‌and‌ ‌next‌ ‌steps‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌coming‌ ‌days.‌ ‌
Lime‌ ‌Rock‌ ‌Park‌ ‌President‌ ‌Skip‌ ‌Barber‌ ‌reiterated‌ ‌Lime‌ ‌Rock’s‌ ‌ongoing‌ ‌commitment‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌health‌ ‌and‌ ‌
safety‌ ‌of‌ ‌fans,‌ ‌participants,‌ ‌and‌ ‌staff.‌ ‌“We’re‌ ‌working‌ ‌diligently‌ ‌on‌ ‌plans‌ ‌to‌ ‌host‌ ‌our‌ ‌first‌ ‌spectator‌ ‌event‌ ‌
on‌ ‌Labor‌ ‌Day‌ ‌weekend.‌ ‌The‌ ‌38th‌ ‌annual‌ ‌Historic‌ ‌Festival‌ ‌will‌ ‌take‌ ‌place‌ ‌on‌ ‌Sept.‌ ‌3-7,‌ ‌and‌ ‌while‌ ‌some‌ ‌
aspects‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌event‌ ‌may‌ ‌be‌ ‌altered‌ ‌to‌ ‌ensure‌ ‌everyone’s‌ ‌safety,‌ ‌the‌ ‌weekend‌ ‌should‌ ‌provide‌ ‌a‌ ‌much‌ ‌
needed‌ ‌opportunity‌ ‌for‌ ‌fans‌ ‌to‌ ‌experience‌ ‌a‌ ‌live‌ ‌race.”‌ ‌
Following‌ ‌its‌ ‌Historic‌ ‌Festival‌ ‌event,‌ ‌the‌ ‌Park‌ ‌will‌ ‌close‌ ‌out‌ ‌the‌ ‌season‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌Trans‌ ‌Am‌ ‌SpeedTour‌ ‌
Classic‌ ‌on‌ ‌Oct.‌ ‌16-18,‌ ‌2020.‌ ‌ ‌
