Goulart sets Lime Rock Park Home Race for IMSA debut
Teams with Albani, AutoTechnic for strong local presence in Michelin Pilot Challenge
LAKEVILLE, Conn. (14 July 2021) – Elivan Goulart will be looking to put his years of experience at Lime Rock Park to good use this weekend when he makes his IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge debut in the Northeast Grand Prix weekend.
Goulart will join fellow Connecticut resident and Sports Car Driving Association (SCDA) client Attilio Albani in AutoTechnic Racing’s No. 52 Paydownhero/www.scda1.com BMW M4 GT4 in the two-hour race that takes the green flag at 11:05 a.m. ET on Saturday.
“I’m pretty excited to be racing with Attilio in the highly competitive GS class, and it will be great to get back to the paddock at Lime Rock,” Goulart said.
Goulart, of Shelton, Conn., is President/Owner of the Connecticut-based SCDA, which has Lime Rock as its home track among the nine circuits it visits for 40 annual events. It’s geared for drivers of all levels, from beginners all the way up to experienced drivers.
“Lime Rock is one of my favorite tracks,” said Goulart, who has won 45-percent of his career races, including many at the Lakeville circuit. “It’s a fast, challenging track, and it’s pretty rewarding when you get it right. Going fast is a matter of holding your breath in the really fast areas. When you approach the uphill, it’s high speed with full concentration at all times. It carries high g-loading, and you carry crazy momentum through there. Turn 1 also creates passing opportunities, you can catch people off-guard and if you can keep a nice, tidy line through there it will go a long way.”
Goulart has been racing in the SRO Pirelli World Challenge America in recent years. He captured the 2016 TCA championship with five victories and 11 podiums in 12 races, and won two races and placed second in the 2017 TCA championship. He also won SCCA National Championships at the Run-Offs in 2002, 2003, 2011 and 2013, and captured the 2004 Formula SCCA title.
Prior to going to SRO, Goulart ran one race in the Grand-Am Rolex Series, driving an Audi R8 at New Jersey Motorsports Park in 2011. He also ran in the two prior iterations of the Pilot Challenge, running one race in 2012 for Mitchum Motorsports in a BMW 128i in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in 2011, and one race in 2005 for Compass Racing in a BMW Z3 Coupe in the Grand-Am Cup.
Albani, of Simsbury, Conn., also has experience in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in addition to running SRO and Spec Miata.
“Expanding my driving into GT4 with the BMW M4 is exciting and along with my long trusted co-driver Elivan makes it easy. We’re both looking forward to a great weekend at Lime Rock Park.”
This will also be the first IMSA race for AutoTechnic, a regular in SRO GT4 competition based in nearby New Milford, Conn.
