Ryan Briscoe Tours Hartford After Win In Canada, Preps For A Win Here
On Sunday, July 8, many of you joined us in watching the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) featuring the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Taking the top spot in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class was the No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT of Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook. The win at CTMP is the second of the year for Westbrook and Briscoe, who also delivered Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s 200th team win at the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January.
With their victory at CTMP, Westbrook and Briscoe reclaimed their position at the top.
“Unreal,” said Briscoe of getting the championship lead back. “This result, as Rick said, played the strategy perfectly, play the traffic, and Rick just drove unbelievably. I mean the car was not easy to drive today. He was just masterful. What a result. We’ll definitely take that.”
On July 21, the team will be here for the first GT-only duel of the 2018 season. All eyes will be on Briscoe, who resides in Connecticut, for the two-hour, 40-minute Northeast Grand Prix. The team has the largest points lead coming into Lime Rock, holding a six-point advantage over No. 3 Corvette C7.R co-drivers Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia.
One day following the race, Briscoe joined members of the Lime Rock Park team to meet with fans in downtown Hartford, CT. Briscoe stopped by Bear's Smokehouse BBQ to sign autographs and take pictures and then met with students at the Connecticut Science Center. "It was nice to meet with the fans outside of the track atmosphere," Briscoe said. "It allowed me to talk to them in a laid-back environment. It was also a pleasure to meet with young learners at the Connecticut Science Center. They had an exhibit were we could race wooden cars and it was fun to watch their faces when their car won."
