Here are five essential tips to help you make the most out of your day at Lime Rock on the FCP Euro Proving Grounds:

1. Arrive with a full tank of gas. While Lime Rock does have quality VP fuel, needing to fuel up during the event will cost you track time.

2. Arrive early, just not too early. I recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time for an ALD. This way, there is time to check in, get your transponder, empty your vehicle of loose items, and be present for the drivers’ brief.

3. Wear long pants and well-fitting, close-toe shoes. Loose shoes will disrupt pedal control. To further expand on that, baggy pants and shirts can get in your way as well, so wearing comfortable, well-fitting attire is highly recommended. And always dress for the weather as, between runs, you will be outside.

4. Don’t follow the car in front too closely! If you are faster than the car ahead of you, just slow down. Let a good gap form between you, then kick your speed back up. Following someone slower doesn’t help you improve.

5. Most importantly: HAVE FUN! Autocross isn’t just about how fast you can make the lap; it is about testing yourself, getting to know your car, and learning new things. On the note of fun, talk to the other drivers and Lime Rock Staff. You will make amazing friends and learn things you never knew. Also, the other drivers are always happy to talk about their cars and the things (sometimes crazy) they have done to them.
