10 Non-Racing Things to Do during the SpeedTour All-Star Race Weekend
The SpeedTour All-Star Race weekend is all about the fans! Legendary driver Mark Martin even said that the thing he is looking forward to most this weekend is signing autographs and meeting his fans.
While we know fans are excited to see the three IROC exhibition races and 20 legendary all-stars paired with 20 motorsport up and comers storm the original Lime Rock Park circuit for the SpeedTour All-Star Race, there’s an equal amount of anticipation brewing for all the FREE (with general admission ticket) fan activities happening off the track this weekend. Here are 10 non-racing MUST DOs while you’re at the track this weekend (July 19-20).
1. TWO AUTOGRAPH SESSIONS
When: Friday 2:10-3:10pm, Saturday 9:00-9:30am
Where: IROC Tent, Paddock A
About: All the drivers and some of the celebrity guests will be in attendance for both autograph sessions. To expedite the line, fans are limited to ONE item per driver for autographs. There will be no selfies allowed, fans can get that opportunity during the Fan Walk.
Items to Bring: Pick up an event-exclusive poster from the SpeedTour Merch trailer located in Paddock A, creating the ultimate SpeedTour All-Star Race souvenir.
Insider Tip: Get in line early. There will be a cut off based on the number of people in line and the time allotted.
2. FAN WALK
When: Saturday Noon-12:50pm
Where: Pit Lane
About: The Fan Walks at Lime Rock Park give attendees the chance to get an up-close look at their favorite All-Star drivers. This is open to all ticket holders. The full field of All-Star drivers and cars will be available for photos and autographs.
Items to Bring: Commemorative merch, sharpie and a camera. Fans will be permitted to take photos with drivers at this time. Fans can also bring any commemorative or collectors merchandise to get signed during this time.
Insider Tip: This activity is the most popular non-racing event of the weekend so visit the driver and car you want to see first. The cars will be staged by qualifying order, making it easy to locate your favorite teams and drivers.
3. IROC PANEL DISCUSSION
When: Friday 1:30-1:45pm
Where: Victory Circle
About: Join Ray Evernham, Mark Martin and NASCAR Pit Reporter Matt Yocum, who started his broadcasting career with IROC, for a bit of IROC nostalgia in Victory Circle.
4. BARBER SHOP DEDICATION, GET HAIRCUT FROM SKIP BARBER’S BARBER
When: Saturday at Noon
Where: Directly outside the Lime Rock Gear Store in Paddock A (bottom of Spectator Hill)
About: Lime Rock Park will rename the Lime Rock Gear Store to “The Barber Shop” as part of the Year of Skip Barber celebration. To commemorate this special occasion, Skip Barber’s personal barber, Corey “Smitty” Smith will be cutting Skip Barber’s hair live during the dedication.
Insider Tip: Fans are also invited to participate in this unique event. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the deck outside of The Barber Shop, Smitty will be offering haircuts to attendees, with a minimum suggested donation of $40 made to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a non-profit founded by Paul Newman that is dedicated to providing “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families.
5. IROC STATIC DISPLAY
When: Friday-Saturday
Where: IROC Tent, Paddock A, behind Victory Circle
Fast Fact: The oldest IROC cars on display are a pair of 1974 Chevrolet Camaros—one driven to Victory Lane at Riverside International Raceway by Bobby Allison in 1975, and utilized again in 1976 by AJ Foyt to clinch his second IROC Championship; the other was raced by Foyt in 1975, as he finished second to Bobby Unser by just two feet, in what was the second-closest IROC finish in history. The newest car is a 2005 Pontiac Firebird raced by four-time Indianapolis 500 Champion Helio Castroneves. In November 2005, Castroneves drove the car to a fourth-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway in his final IROC start. 2
About: 20 authentic IROC race cars spanning over 30 years of racing history will be on display under the IROC Tent. Fans are welcome to tour the tent to take video and photos of the cars.
Insider Tip: Some IROC drivers will be hanging out in the tent periodically by their original IROC car. The IROC merch trailer will also have commemorative IROC posters and FREE hero cards for autographs.
6. DRIVER MEET & GREET WITH MARIE-SOLEIL “SUNNY” LABELLE
When: Friday 3:00-3:30pm
Where: WIMNA tent located on the Midway
Fast Fact: Lime Rock Park is an official regional hub of Women in Motorsports North America (WIMNA)
About: Born with a Developmental Language Disorder, Marie-Soleil “Sunny” Labelle grew up facing adversity but remained resilient and determined to achieve her goals. At 17, she started university and is now a fourth-year student-athlete at the University of Ottawa pursuing double degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Technology. Marie-Soleil also made history as the youngest female driver in the Canadian Nissan Micra Cup series and became the 2022 vice-champion in the Canadian Nissan Sentra Cup series. A young entrepreneur and philanthropist, she founded MSL Course Communication and is involved with Make-A-Wish® Canada, RADLD, and the V42 Foundation. She is also a WIMNA member.
Insider Tip: Marie-Soleil will have her hero cards to sign in the booth.
7. RAY EVERNHAM BOOK SIGNING
When: Friday 2:10-2:40pm, Saturday 9:00-9:30am
Where: IROC Trailer
Fast Fact: Ray Evernham will host a book signing of his new autobiography “Trophies & Scars”. The book is available for purchase at the IROC Merch Tent.
About: “Trophies and Scars” is the deeply personal and revealing story of NASCAR Hall of Famer Ray Evernham. A son of the Jersey Shore, he achieved his boyhood dream of becoming a race car driver but had to pivot to leading a race team after a series of crashes ended his driving career. He formed a legendary partnership with Jeff Gordon, leading the No. 24 team to three championships and 47 wins, and later spearheaded the return of Dodge to NASCAR and became a TV personality. Throughout his career, he coped with personal challenges, such as his son’s leukemia and autism diagnoses, and founded the Evernham Family Racing for a Reason Foundation to support education for young adults with autism.
8. SIGN SKIP BARBER’S GIANT GREETING CARD
When: Friday-Saturday
Where: Year of Skip Booth on the Midway
Fast Fact: The “card” stands 8×8 foot tall
About: 2024 is the Year of Skip Barber and Lime Rock Park is honoring Skip and his contributions to the motorsport community with several events throughout the year. While we know Skip has left his mark on the business and competition side of racing, he’s also had a major impact on the fans. This is your chance to leave your favorite memory of Skip or just a special message for him. This card will be up all season and at the end of the year we will present the card to Skip!
Insider Tip: Skip’s LRP edition M3 will also be on display at the booth so be sure to snap a pic.
9. SKIP BARBER’S MARCH 701 – CARTAINER
When: Friday-Monday
Where: Point of Paddock A
Fast Fact: This car was built for Formula 1 but raced in Formula 5000 – Skip still made it to the front of the pack in it!
About: Displayed in a climate-controlled, clear Cartainer, fans will be able to get a 360 degree view of Skip Barber’s 1970 March 701 F1 Car that he drove in Formula 5000 in 1971.
Insider Tip: If you’re camping at the track, the cartainer will be lit up at night, so come down and get a unique perspective under the moonlight.
10. PICK UP COMMEMORATIVE MERCH
When: Friday-Saturday
Where: SpeedTour Merch Trailer, IROC Merch Trailer, Barber Shop all located in Paddock A
About: This event will be filled with commemorative merchandise. If you’re looking for event merch (posters, t-shirts), you will find that at the SpeedTour Merch Trailer near the SpeedTour transporter. If you want IROC Merch (posters, books, shirts, memorabilia) those items will be located at the IROC Merc Trailer right beside the IROC Tent. If you want Lime Rock Park merchandise, The Year of Skip Barber commemorative items or general race-day gear (chairs, rain ponchos, sunblock, etc) you’ll find that in the Barber Shop, attached to The Deck in Paddock A.
