More Than 1000 Vintage and Rare Cars Turn Out for Sunday in The Park

On a stunning Sunday at The Park, the sun shined down on a spectacular display of automotive excellence, with over a thousand cars gracing the historic grounds of Lime Rock Park.

While Friday, Saturday and Monday of Historic Festival 42 are dedicated to the raw power and performance of vintage racing, Sunday is reserved for celebrating the speed, beauty and tradition of automobiles with The Lime Rock Concours and Gathering of the Marques.

With cars ranging from the eclectic and fun to the distinguished and rare, visitors had the chance to take a stroll around the 1.5-mile circuit to get an up-close look of cars that were parked all around the Connecticut track with the weather adding an extra touch of charm.

The Lime Rock Concours was once again headed by an esteemed panel of judges that evaluated more than 200 cars, selecting 17 for drive-up awards. The Best in Show d’Elegance was awarded to Paul Tacy’s 1937 Packard 1508 while last year’s Honored Collector Lawrence Auriana’s 1950 Ferrari 166 MM took Best in Show Sport.

This year’s Concours showcased the 60th anniversary of the Ford Mustang and celebrated the rich legacy of Ford Performance and Motorsports. The event was anchored by Honored Collector Ross Myers, a regular participant in Historic Trans-Am and a long-time competitor at Lime Rock Park. As the benefactor of the 3 Dog Garage Museum in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, Myers shared an impressive collection of rare and significant Ford-powered racers sports cars, and hot rods from the museum, which were displayed throughout the weekend and during Sunday in The Park.

In tribute to Ford and the 3 Dog Garage, this year’s Concours included several dedicated Ford classes. These ranged from historic and modern Ford GTs to “Affordable Fords,” where collectors were encouraged to showcase their barn finds, restorations, hot rods and custom builds. Owners of Mustangs from all generations were also invited to enter their cars in dedicated Mustang classes.

The Lime Rock Concours also featured several special classes that highlighted notable marques and milestones. The event showcased Lancia’s rich history in both sports and competition cars, and cars bodied by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Touring were also on display. Additionally, the Concours celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911 and highlighted American Cars of the Nickel era. A new class this year, Contemporary Coachbuilding, displayed the artistry of modern coachbuilders on both classic and contemporary chassis.

Representatives from FCP Euro, Autodromo, Hagerty and Marsh McLennan were all part of the prestigious award ceremony.

The five-day event will conclude on Monday with the final competition outings as all nine race groups will stage a total of 18 races to close out the 41st edition of the event.

Gates open at 7:00 a.m. with racing starting at 9:00 a.m. Tickets are available at the gate. Children under 12, active military and vets are free.
