Friday Offers a Beautiful Start to the FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park

LAKEVILLE, CONN. (15 July 2022)- Mother Nature delivered perfect racing weather on Friday as blue skies and sun blanketed the lush green, rolling hills backdrop of Lime Rock Park for the first day of the FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix.  Friday’s qualifying sessions came fast and furious in the final segment of the day, with the drivers taking advantage of the conditions to set remarkably quick times as well as one new track record.

IMSA Qualifying

IMSA will host a doubleheader on Saturday with the Lime Rock 120 kicking off the day at 11:05 a.m. Eastern. Leading the 35-car Michelin Pilot Challenge field will be John Dubets, who set the new track record en route to the GS Motul Pole Award with a fast lap of 53.691-seconds in the No. 28 Porsche 718 GT4 RS-CS.

Robert Wickens captured the pole in the TCR class for the 2-hour and 15-minute race with a 54.048-second flyer. Driving the No. 33 Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb Agajanian Hyundai Elantra N TCR  Wickens is coming off a two-race winning streak in the TCR class, today marked his first IMSA career pole.

“I’m happy, I pushed a lot, saving that left front which seems to be pretty important here,” said Wickens. “This place is awesome, you really have to push here, traffic will be an issue, glad to start up front and the No. 33 Elantra N TCR is dialed in!”

The FCP Euro WeatherTech SportsCar Championship battle starts on Saturday at 2:55 p.m. Eastern with Matt Campbell on pole. Driving the No. 9 Driveway Motul Pfaff Porsche Porsche 911 GT3R, outpaced the new GTD Pro field with a time of 51.079-seconds. Mathieu Jaminet will share the seat with Campbell in the 2-hour and 45-minute race.

“I mean, we are thinking about the big picture here,” said Cambell.  “Tomorrow’s is where everything really happens. But obviously we’re starting off on the right foot today to be starting on the front row and hopefully we can do a good job tomorrow. You know, the Pfaff guys have done a fantastic job all year executing on strategy and hopefully we can come home with a big result.”

The GTD class will be led by Frankie Montecalvo in the No. 12 VasserSullivan Lexus RC F GT3 with co-driver Aaron Telitz.
