Dramatic Races, Big Crowds and Great Weather for FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park
LAKEVILLE, CONN. (16 July 2022)- With perfect weather greeting a huge crowd on hand for the FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix, history repeated itself at Lime Rock Park on Saturday.
Fifty years after Bob Bailey drove a Porsche into Lime Rock Park’s victory lane in IMSA’s first visit to the track, Matt Campbell (AUS) and Mathieu Jaminet (FRA) repeated the feat as they shared the driving duties on board the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R to score a dominating victory.
Bailey’s win was celebrated as he returned to the track as the Grand Marshal for the event and participated in a range of pre-race ceremonies, including taking to the track in a street Porsche to lead the Porscheplatz parade laps ahead of the race. The pre-race ceremonies built the anticipation ahead of the race, with Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal giving the call to the field to start their engines and kick off the two hour, 40-minute race.
The win marked the fourth of the season for drivers Campbell and Jaminet in the new IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD Pro class.
“That is cool to win with Porsche 50 years after a Porsche won the first IMSA race here,” said Campbell. “It might have looked easy from the outside but it definitely wasn’t. Starting from the pole was critical.. This result means a lot of great points for the championship and it was another flawless performance from the entire Pfaff team.”
In a dramatic closing final moments of the race Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow finished first in the GTD class, taking the lead in the final corner of the race to score a victory with the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing Total Lubricants/UIS and Paul Miller Auto Group BMW M4 GT3.
The day opened with the two-hour Lime Rock 120, as Robin Liddell and Frank DePew co-drove the Rebel Rock Racing No. 71 Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R to victory in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race by just 2.951 seconds.
“We had a difficult year in 2021, with a lot of incidents and disappointment,” Liddell said. “This year, we have put solid races under our belt and are finishing the best we can – some top-10s, some top-fours and now a win, which is great. I’m super happy, the team did a great job, and the car always performs well here.”
In a very physical TCR class race, the No. 17 Unitronic-JDC MotorSports Audi RS3 LMS SEQ, driven by Chris Miller and Mikey Taylor took a beating before claiming the checkered flag 1.148-seconds ahead of their closest competitor.
