1963 Ferrari 250GTO Coming To Historic Festival

Among the iconic Italian-made masterpieces that will be featured at Lime Rock during the Historic Festival's Sunday in the Park Concours, held on Sunday, Sept. 1, is this 1962 Ferrari 250GTO. The car will be exhibited under the name of Scuderia N. E.

The GTO was originally a series 1 version, but at that time, was not raced. At the end of 1963, it was the first of four converted by Ferrari to the 1964 specifications. It had several different owners during this time and primarily used for hillclimbs in Italy, winning the Italian GT mountain championship in 1965 and, in that same year, the GT class at the Targa Florio, an open road endurance automobile race held in the mountains of Sicily.

It came to the U.S. in 1968 when it was purchased by a doctor in Detroit. It's current owner purchased it in 1982, and has raced it across the country, including Lime Rock Park, up until 2008.

The car is one of the four featured on the Historic Festival 37 commemorative poster by Chuck Queener. http://limerock.com/HF37officialartwork
