Ed Bogue Wins Second Consecutive LIQUI MOLY Autocross Invitational Shootout at Lime Rock Park

Lime Rock Park’s 1.53 mile circuit has set the stage for top-level competition through the decades, but it isn’t the only place to compete at the picturesque Connecticut facility.

The Park’s recently enlarged and repaved FCP Euro Proving Grounds has added even more opportunities for both competition and education as the lightning-quick laps provide significant doses of adrenaline. The increased interest in the LIQUI MOLY Autocross Invitational Shootout, as well as the fierce competition levels of the participating drivers, has continued to swell in its three years of operation.

Mother Nature offered perfect fall conditions with temperatures topping 75 degrees as 27 of the fastest Lime Rock Park LIQUI MOLY Autocross Series drivers of the year took to the FCP Euro Proving Grounds on Saturday, competing in the annual LIQUI MOLY Autocross Invitational Shootout.

With a very competitive field, only 16 thousandths of a second separated first from second place with the 2022 reigning champion Ed Bogue returning to the .68-mile Super Circuit to claim his second consecutive title.
in dramatic fashion.

Driving the same 2001 Porsche 911 as he did last year, Bogue worked the entire season to improve on his championship-winning time that he set in 2022 (42.06-seconds). On his final circuit, Bogue put together the perfect lap, shaving nearly half a second off his personal best record from the previous season and emerging with the top time of the day (41.662-seconds).

The accomplishment not only earned Bogue bragging rights and LIQUI MOLY hardware, but the two-time champion was also awarded a Lime Rock Park Autocross Club membership, an invitation to join the Lime Rock Drivers Club for a day and $250 gift certificate from Piloti Shoes.

Coming in a close second place was Trevor Lowe in a 1999 Mazda Miata, turning a fast lap of 41.826-seconds to earn a complimentary one-year Lime Rock Park Autocross Club membership.

Of the podium finishers, Tony Bogue, Ed’s son, made the biggest jump in the standings, qualifying eighth ahead of the weekend in a 2001 Porsche 911. Tony finished third, improving his qualifying time by .912-seconds to win a free day with Lime Rock Drivers Club in 2023.

Morgan Carey (Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE) and Mike Piera (Lotus Exige S) rounded out the top five, receiving free lapping days on the FCP Euro Proving Grounds in 2024.

The Most Improved Driver Award went to Nicolette Halsey, who improved her lap time in her 2008 Chevrolet Corvette by more than 10 seconds over the course of the season. The achievement earned Halsey an Advanced Driver Coaching Day in 2024.

The new John Deere Award was presented to Robert Meany for the biggest spin of the season. Shaking down his new supercharger on his Mazda Miata, Meany got on the throttle a little too enthusiastically, spinning down the hill through the grass and sending a wave of dirt over him and his passenger. The move won Meany a day of radio coaching from a Lime Rock driver instructor.

The LIQUI MOLY Autocross Shootout saw a record-breaking season for entries, doubling the competitors over 2022, with more than 750 drivers of all skill levels participating in 2023. The top 30 drivers were then invited back for the LIQUI MOLY Autocross Invitational held on the FCP Euro Proving Grounds. All competitors received a LIQUI MOLY Welcome Bag which included LIQUI MOLY swag and a discount from Piloti Shoes.

For people interested in driving on the FCP Euro Proving Grounds in 2024, annual Lime Rock Park Autocross Club are now on sale with earlybird pricing through December 24.
